American Imperial Stouts

Two very good American Imperial Stouts, one in can and one in bottle, at Håndverkerstuene in Oslo.

Ten Fidy is a 9,4% abv imperial stout which, like the other beers from Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, Colorado, is only sold in can. This started out as a gimmick by the founder, Dale Katechis, who loves mountain climbing and wanted to carry beer with him as lightly as possible. Today he claims that can is better for the beer as it allows no sunlight through. The Ten Fidy pours thick and pitch black into a glass, it's so viscous you almost need a spoon to get it out. Creamy smooth in the mouth and with a complex aroma of licorice, chocolate, toffee and coffe and a flavor to match that with a long, long aftertaste, it's a winner!

The bottle of Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewing Company in Fort Bragg, California, has been rated before.
