ziggy statue (1972)
The thing that I found interesting about this statue (aside from it being a sand-filled plastic one) is that it's not emblazoned with the standard feel-good homily you'd expect from Ziggy. In fact, this slogan seems downright fatalistic - go ahead, crap on me, I'm used to it.
I wouldn't have thought any aspect of comicdom's most benign marshmallow had ever been altered, but it looks like the character had his negative moments earlier on. I think originally he was more of a loser - Charlie Brown without the viciousness and sarcasm.
I also like the fact that it's unpainted, with a pretty rough sculpt. I don't know if it was supposed to make it feel more like it was chipped from stone, or if it was simply cheaper to leave the sculpt in a less-finished state. Regardless, I think it's a nice contrast to the softness of the character design.
I got this on eBay for $15 or $20. There's another one there right now for about $11.00, and I think there's two or three others (including this one) for sale at What A Character! for $13 + shipping each.
