The Case of the Dancing Dinosaur (Page 5: REJECTED)
The original graphite and ink illustration by González Vicente, originally intended to be used on page five of the Random House paperback. It was rejected on the grounds that it didn't depict this scene in the story accurately enough:
"Once inside, Jupiter turned a desk lamp so its bulb pointed towards the ceiling. Gently he spread the fragile tissue across the circular shade. Then he darkened the room.
“Okay, Bob, get ready to copy this,” said Jupiter. “It won’t last long.”
As he turned on the lamp, light projected through the tissue, throwing the faint words into sharp relief."
