This marketplace in Old Delhi is one road of the many chaotic twisting lanes of spices, nuts, soaps, beads and lots of food. Taken from the steps of the Jama Masjid, the lanes and markets surround this giant mosque. Lanes branch off with different specialties; at one turn there is a lane of childrens toys connected to lanes of fruits, nuts and spices, then a turn left and there is a lane of pungent soaps. Old Delhi is formerly known as Shahjahanabad, or the capital of the moghul emporer Shajahan. Delhi has a long and eventful Moghul history which one can see in the mosque as well as the dilapidated but intricate wooden architecture above the shops.
