Gentle Sandy

Just before Christmas Sandy wasn't very well. He was losing weight and had a nasty discharge coming from his nose. It turned out that he had an infected tooth which had infected his nasal sinuses. As a result he had to have his four remaining (canine) teeth removed. It was quite a big operation which left him with a large hole in the roof of his mouth straight into his nasal passages, This meant that, when he tried to drink, the water went into his nose and upset him. He got to the stage that he was reluctant to even try to drink. We changed his feeding to mostly soft food so he was getting moisture that way. Gradually the hole has started to heal from the inside out so he is now able to drink and is back to normal. We have had him at the vets to check his weight and he is now back to his usual weight.

One of the benefits of this is that he is now eating better than ever. All his life he has been a fussy eater but now he is wolfing into his grub and seemingly loving it. We've been waiting for him to get fed up with it as has happened in the past but that hasn't happened so we're absolutely delighted. In the morning he gets a mixture of Arden Grange Lamb & Rice hard food with Naturediet Lamb with Vegetables & Rice soft food. At teatime he gets Naturediet Salmon, Rice & Vegetables soft food added to Burgess Salmon & Rice hard food. The benefit of the Naturediet soft food compared to other soft foods we've tried is that it doesn't stink the house out!

This is just a quick snap of Sandy, as he doesn't like the camera pointed at him, but it is one of my favourites. I love the way the colours have come out and I think it captures Sandy's gentle nature.
