Grayish Eagle-Owl / Bubo cinerascens
A rarity for the Gambia, and so a prized sighting. This picture at considerable distance, as this owl (I'm told) if disturbed will find a different roost. Ebrima Barry, my guide for my last day on the coast, and I pulled up to the bush track only to encounter 2 4x4s, and a troop of German (perhaps Dutch) birders led by Solomon Jallow, the Dean of Gambian birdguides. I stopped counting at 4 Swaroski spotting scopes & accessories-- over $10000 worth of gear right there. Didn't bother to look at the bins. Wonder what the owl thought being ringed -- albeit at a presumed safe distance -- with birders.
