Pressing On Into The Fading Afternoon Light
Much of the hike to Bald is over open terrain. This adds to the excitement of the trip and gives great views. In any season this is a great hike, but it seems we were among the few who hiked there in winter.
Sadly the Adirondacks are mistaken for being crowded but the truth is that it's only because people refuse to disperse, hikes like this probably see as many visitors in an entire winter as say Algonquin or Marcy see in a single nice weekend day.
So before making assumptions that solitude CANNOT be found, simply make a commitment to exploring more of the 6 million acres (3.7 of which are public) that the New York State Legislature and the People of the State of New York decided to protect as "Forever Wild" way back in 1896.
Repeat after me, "there is more to life than the High Peaks Wilderness...there is more to life than the High Peaks Wilderness...there is more to life than the High Peaks Wilderness"
