Fire and Ice: Lake George The Queen Of American Lakes

Decided to sleep in and do this hike this afternoon for a sunset.

Buck Nountain is a fairly low rising 2300ft summit that has near 360* views depending on the vantage point. It's 3.2 mile hike with 2000ft elevation gained. I hate hikes that meander, and this one definitely does. But the nice thing is it's definitely skiable with (lots) more snow. You can probably ski 2.0 miles of the hike, then switch to snowshoes. Only issue is the multiple stream crossings.

Caney actually fell in (not all the way) while hopping some ice covered rocks. Poor dog!!!

I guess I wasted too much time checking out the waterfalls and some potential rock climbs, because I watched the sunset through the trees, and damn, it was was nice. Fortunately it was very visible to me. Usually my sunsets invovle a greyish orange ball sinking, but this was vivid and bright.

The best light is after the set anyway, and in 6F temps and 15mph winds sitting on a summit for very long while taking brackets just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Anyway, I'm not thrilled with these shots but not bad for a lazy afternoon hike.
