Worst Stadium In Baseball, Reminds Me Of A Mausoleum
While a lot of teams got new stadiums in the last 15 years, in my opinion the Mets needed it the most. This place is by far the most depressing stadium in sports. Lacks history, style and is just a dismal place to watch a game. The fact that it's on the border of Laguardia Airport doesn't add much to the ambiance. And all the hanging memories of the of the Mets few and brief periods of glory only make it more of a memorial and less of a place to watch a game.
Good bye Shea, hello Citi Field 2009
The Mets embarrassed themselves and their fans. The played sloppy and without any heart, they seemed like they expected the Marlins and the rest of the National League to roll over for them.
Now, after playing one of the worst, perhaps without a doubt the worst, games I have ever seen in person with a less than sellout crowd on hand in the franchises most important regular season game, the season is over. After being in first place for over 150 days, and taking a 7 game lead into the final 17 games, with the final 7 games at home against losing teams the Mets had the greatest, most "Amazin" implosion in sports history.
