For Sale: Giant Beaver Dam With Attached Lodge
This little engineering marvel is actually a dam with attached lodge. Most dams are separate from the lodge, but these beavers wanted to be close to the worksite and decided to incorporate the dam and lodge.
Beavers apparently can't tolerate the sound of running water, and it makes them compusively build impoundments to stop the water flow. This dam was breached by us and perhaps some other paddlers or just the rain because in photos from Saturday and Sunday the gap on the left seems wider Sunday.
As we approached this dam there was a very small baby beaver on the top of the dam. He very calmy went back into the lodge as we got closer and didn't come back out.
