• I´d cut it like that, because the big blue sky is not that interesting in that picture. - schmilar77

Terrier and Telegraph Pole

Newer Older

Terrier 662 'Martello' ran a regular shuttle service from Minehead to Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway during last Saturday's winter steam gala. Here she approaches Blue Anchor, Dunster Castle is visible in the background. Don't be fooled by the clear blue skies, literally 5 minutes before this, the rain was pretty heavy and being blown in horizontally. There was no shelter anywhere near this spot, your's truly was very glad of the nice warm coat that he had been given for Christmas.

    Thank you very much

    Many thanks.

Thank you Cindy, I'm very glad that you like them.

Thanks Stephen. I didn't notice the "engineer" when I took the shot, but I'm very pleased that he chose that moment to peer out through the cab spectacle window.

Thanks Linda. I knew nobody would believe me. It usually works the other way around for me, clear skies until the train puts in an appearance, and then it clouds over/starts to rain.

    Many thanks.

Thank you. The pill box is probably just about visible in this shot directly in line with Dunster castle folly. I was stood line-side near the footpath that crosses the track. I took the first of the Steam Engineman Courses at the WSR in October 2006 (I have a set of it somewhere), during which I had a tour of both the Minehead and Blue Anchor signal boxes. Fascinating places, congratulations to your wife on her achievement.

Thank you very much for the award & invite.

The only thing that could improve this image is a plume of steam.
Ray the colours and texture of this photo is simply superb. I hate saying like a post card, cos it's better than that. Maybe it's the light yada, yada. Well @ least you know I really, really like this :))

You're living up to your crazy name by standing in the middle of the English countryside in December!!!!

    Thank you all very much.

I'm glad you like it Jeff. No steam as she was coasting on the level towards Blue Anchor station.

So let me get this straight. Mad dogs and English men venture forth into the midday sun, whilst crazy English men venture forth into the mid december rain. Even the mad dogs are too sensible to do that!
