Just as the UK was falling into Autumn, we had an unseasonal bout of outrageous hot weather - the hottest for a hundred years (or so they said on the news). So just as we should have all been starting to grab our scarves and start wrapping up, we were instead walking around in shorts and heading for the beach.
I took this shot of my son with my wife spraying cold water at him from a hose pipe. He loved it, until in the end he stood there shivering and shrieking and we wrapped him up in a warm towel.
There's a lot about this image that I don't like. It needed a faster shutter speed to freeze the water better and I hate the colour of the background - but there wasn't anywhere else to take the shot. But sometimes it's easy to forget that photography isn't just about perfect images, it's also about capturing something of the human spirit, raw and honest. And that's why I love this photograph, because it captures the sheer delight my son had with the cold water showering him.
