His crate is his castle
Mick has happily slept the night in his latched crate, all his life until the last couple of weeks. I was uncomfortable with the idea that he could be trapped in there if there was an emergency --- not likely, but possible. So we asked him to get used to sleeping with the door open, as he does for naps in daytime.
He was very uneasy about it at first; Mick is a dog who likes tradition, consistency, predictability. He's accepted it now and I think he's sleeping well, though I suspect that so far he'd still prefer to go back to the old way.
