A sign of healing
The kelp forest is healthier this summer than in the past few years. In late summer we see the dark brown tops at the surface; I've heard of the beauty of the long waving stalks and leaves underwater, a rich haven for fish.
It's an illustration of chain of living things. A few years ago there was a wasting disease that greatly damaged the starfish population. With fewer starfish, the urchin population skyrocketed. Urchins munch on kelp, and in great numbers, they did great damage. Less kelp forest meant fewer fish.
The starfish are recovering; the urchin numbers are going down; and here's the kelp in something like its healthy profusion.
