Famine house bonane

Four images from a major archaeological site in the beautiful valley of bonane.A truly breathtaking place with over 250 ancient monuments including fulachta fiadhs, ballaun stones, standing stones ringforts, stone circles, wedge tombs and court tombs. Many of these are of astronomical significance being able to tell with amazing accuracy the solar and lunar cycles. As far as i know a lot of this area was only discovered a few years back by a farmer who owned the land and discovered that the sun and moon was rising and setting in alignment with the stones. An amazing place for a visit with a special atmosphere and beautiful scenery. Located at the beginning of the caha mountain range where the ring of kerry meets the beara peninsula near kenmare co kerry. This an abandoned dwelling from the 1840s during the great famine of ireland when the potato crops failed and over a million of our ancestors died.
