Canarian Egyptian Vulture

(Neophron percnopterus majorensis)

Only found on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, known locally as the Guirres.

Despite numbers supposed to be improving on Fuerteventura this was still a tricky bird to connect with seeing just 1 in the first half of the trip, I probably shouldn't have been surprised it spent long enough as my European bogey bird despite several holidays in areas where everyone else said I'd definitely see one.

A visit to Barranco de Rio Cabras soon fixed that, the area to park to walk to the Barranco was on the approach road to the island's main tip and a visit at first light saw well over a dozen sat on the tops of the pylons, no point flying to a natural roost point further away from a food source !
