Diner in Kleinich (Thursday, day 5)
Landhaus Arnoth
Alter Gasthof Faust
Auf dem Pütz
Kleinich, Germany
This is a tiny, little restaurant with only a few tables and no menu. You eat what the chef has prepared that day and pay a very fair price. This is exactly as I think it should/could be for small restaurants in small villages. I loved it! The food, the service, the cosey, little restaurant, everything.
First course: cream, chives, champagne & Riesling soup with black rice from Piemond, a lovely panfried scallop and some black salt. Lovely! The nutty, earthy, warm taste of the rice was perfect with the creamy, fresh tasting soup and the "creamy" scallop. I really loved it and will probably try to recreate this at home some time.
Second course: Slowcooked local, freerange pork. I think it was shoulder, soft and succulent. With a thick horseradish & cream sauce. Instead of drowning the meat in sauce, like we'd seen everywhere else in the Eiffel they served additional sauce in a little saucer. Great! Served with very softly boiled vegetables (like celeriac, carrot and I forgot what else), cooked in bouillon. And even though I normally prefer crunchy vegetables, this was lovely. On the side were boiled potatoes with butter and parsley.
Dessert: I think it was walnut-cake. A bit dry, but with the creme Catalane and the caramelsauce it was lovely.
By far the best diner during our holiday!
