Melon Pear

Saw this at my turkish grocery and couldn't resist.

They are about 11 cm tall, have a delicate skin and a juicy/soft feel.

My grocer didn't have a clue what they were called though.

Thank god for internet. :-)

They are called "melon pear" or "Pepino" and originally come from South America.

Unfortunately, the taste was a little bit disappointing. They taste like melon, but a

little "bland", not as sweet as you'd expect.

Probably because they didn't ripe in the sun but on a boat?
