Fulton Tower (2)

So here we are - a very unassuming little Border pele tower. Small, plain and oblong, these towers were really little more than fortified farm houses - a testament to the lawlessness and violence that for centuries characterised the Border region.

I read somewhere that Fulton was L-planned, but it looks plainly oblong to me - although there may have been a stair-tower protruding from the far right corner. The lumps and bumps in the grass around-about, cover the remains of outbuildings and probably a courtyard wall - more for the security of cattle than that of the tower's occupants.
