Mark Cavendish, who is now the World Road Race Champion, riding in the
now-defunct Bungay May Day Races (Bungay crits) for Team Persil (a
sponsored amateur team) in 2004. I don't remember whether this may
have been leading up to the sprint for a prime, but here he is
entering the finish straight.
I have now found this information on an old Manx Road Club page - "Mark Cavendish continues to impress with another great performance at the Bungay Criteriums, Suffolk, a round of the National Circuit Race Series. Cavendish who got into cycling through mountain biking and now riding for Team Persil was beaten into second place by Dean Downing (Recycling.co.uk) in a four man break that included Kristian House (Recycling.co.uk) who came in third with Matt Bramier (Team Persil) fourth."
Getting my old Minolta DiMAGE 5 to focus for this kind of thing was a bit hit and miss (especially on such a dull wet day) so I am lucky to have this one - naturally I had no inside knowledge that one day Cavendish would be a star! He was just approaching his 19th birthday.
I don't usually alter the colour in my photos but on this occcasion it helps to get rid of some of the bright clothing in the crowd and concentrate attention on the rider. I hope you like the result.
