ᕿᓂᖅᑖᖅ | Qupanuaq | Calcarius lapponicus | Lapland Longspur

Fresh snow on the ground, and some still coming down, greeted us on our first morning in Pond Inlet, Nunavut. After breakfast, a few us went for a walk to the outskirts of town. Adam recommended the road up past the runway as a decent birding location, so that's where we headed.

In our hour and a half stroll we saw:

3 Snow Goose

1 Ross's Goose

9 Long-tailed Duck

1 American Golden-Plover

1 Lesser Yellowlegs

6 Glaucous Gull

7 Common Raven

1 Horned Lark

12 Lapland Longspur

8 Snow Bunting

In contrast to their winter behaviour around Ottawa, where they are very flighty, it was possible to walk right up to the Lapland Longspurs.
