week 48 - Long Exposure.

This water tower was constructed in 1889 for the Invercargill Waterworks to provide the town with high pressure water supply. The class 1 heritage building, was closed in 2012 due to safety concerns following the Christchurch earthquakes but is to be strengthened at a cost of approximately NZ$1.3million. Whilst the public were previously able to climb the internal stairs to the top it has been suggested that with the structural work there will be a requirement to install a lift, a fire detection system would be installed, people would need to be supervised and people may be required to wear a harness when on the stairs.
