water frogs (Pelophylax)

As water frogs, also green frogs, predominantly semi-aquatic living representatives of the family of the real frogs are summarized. Many authors have recently included them in a separate genus Pelophylax, thus separating them taxonomically more clearly from other water frogs of the genus Rana, to which the water frogs are traditionally also counted. Alternatively, Pelophylax is still treated as a subgenus within Rana. Furthermore, the name "water frog" is occasionally used as a synonym for the hybrid pond frog. Furthermore, the vague trivial name "Water frog" may also refer to other frogs living near water bodies all year round.
