Wendy Searle and the Good Reef
Proud, passionate, and colourful: an apt description of Wendy and the artwork her Prep/Year 1 class created for an exhibition at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery. When I started chatting to Wendy at the opening of the exhibition tonight I commented that the students of Sharon State School might be able to teach me a thing or two when they arrive in my high school art room in a few years time. She proudly showed me the sculptural display her students had created under the guidance of artist Michelle Pacey. Through the creation of this magical underwarer world with scaly 3D fish, photocopied doily coral and tissue paper anemones, Wendy has undergone a change in the way she approaches art with her students. Her passion for her students' work was infectious - I love how art can do this to people!
