Stand Tall Amongst the Ruins
Those who follow me closely have probably noticed that my photo stream here on Flickr has a fairly Sydney-centric nature to them. This is good in that it poses a challenge in finding new and interesting places to shoot not to mention new perspectives on places I've already shot. However it's always refreshing to go out and shoot something completely different.
In this case that something completely different is the old Blast Furnace in Lithgow, NSW. Once the heart of the town bit by bit the coal and iron industry has moved on with quite adverse consequences for the town. In fact having spent a bit of time in the area on a few occasions I think in some ways the feeling of sadness and decay in this picture is probably reflected in the town as a whole.
In retrospect I would have probably shot this picture without the bush on the left hand side (I really should learn to travel with some gardening tools). However all in all I don't think it totally ruins the shot and in fact may even add to the desolate, lonely, abandoned feel.
