Black-headed Ibis

This is also called an Oriental white Ibis and breeds in Indian subcontinent. This is a 'Near Threatened' species, I am glad to see one for the first time. The following day I saw a juvenile in my ancestral village landing in a farmer's bare field. This photo was taken while sitting on a dinghy. No motor boat is allowed in this Oxbow Lake formed by the river Ganges; this provides a nice quiet area for all kinds of migratory birds. Chupi Char, Purbasthali, West Bengal, India
