Rippled: Great Sand Dunes, CO

I awoke in my tent in the middle of the night, and packed up. To avoid heat exhaustion, I began my hike well before sunrise, and packed a lot of water. The fact that wind can make lines in the sand look like this still amazes me. Call me simple, but I think it will astonish me forever.

I used the mindboggling ripples in the sand as a foreground interest, and the early morning light did the rest. The sky had enough darkness to it that I didn't even need to bother with ND grad filters. The polarizer helped keep some of the blues in the sky and the bright areas in check.
