Back and White

A Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar (Lophocampa caryae) feeding on a leaf of an American Linden (Tilia americana), also known as Basswood.

When these caterpillars are touched by humans severe itching can ensue, accompanied by very painful burning sensations. Itchy rashes can persist for several days.
