Basket of Garlic Scapes

The tops of hardneck garlic plants are edible. They are delicious brushed with seasoned olive oil and grilled, or they can be used in stir fried veggies, soups or stews.

This is our crop of scapes from 100 garlic bulbs. We harvest the garlic sometime in late July or early August, and set aside the largest 10 to 15 bulbs until fall. Each bulb can then be divided into about 6 to 8 cloves and planted. By next summer, we will have another 100 garlic bulbs. And on and on it goes...

Here is a shot of the rows of garlic plants growing in our garden.
