Rock Polypody Sori

The underside of a frond of Rock Polypody, or Common Polypody (Polypodium virginianum), showing the round sori (spore-bearing structures). The sori of the rock polypody fern are distinctively orange-brown when mature and lack the protective covering (the “indusium”) seen in some other fern species.


Here is a shot of the top of this native evergreen fern.
