These, smell exactly how they smelled when I was a girl :OD The children often look puzzled when I stop to sniff the cubes during a numeracy lesson.
(on the note of smelling, I just love it when sometimes there is a jumper (our children wear uniforms) with no name on it and we need to find out whose it is and a child will instinctively pick up the 'lost' jumper and sniff it - "I think it might be Jack's or Martin's)
Today a group of children were practicing counting groups of cubes up to ten. Some children at this stage find it difficult to say one number for each cube so we concentrated hard on not missing any out.
As a reward for such concentration, we watched Sesame St counting videos.
(Yesterday's numeracy group had been practicing counting forwards and backwards to 20 and as it was Halloween they were all dressed up - the children didn't understand why I found it so funny to see a child in a Dracula outfit concentrating so hard on counting so I have familiarised them with Count Dracula now :OD)
