A few day's before I took this, I was at my mother's house for lunch and she told me the following anecdote:
Wellington Koo was Chinese ambassador in London before the Second World War. He was at some large official banquet, perhaps in the Guildhall. The man sitting beside him in an effort to be friendly, turned to him and said, "Likee soupee?"
Koo was the guest speaker that evening and after delivering a very eloquent speech in perfect English, he turned to his neighbour and asked, " Likee speechee?"
