This spider is found only on Middle Island in Western Australia. It is closely related to Maratus avibus, a species that occurs on mainland Australia at Cape Arid. Both species are separated only by 9 km of ocean.
Another interesting feature of Middle Island is Lake Hillier, a lake that is of bubble gum pink colour and quite salty, so salty in fact that you easily float. It gets its colours from some algae.
