Maratus nigromaculatus
This species was described from Rockhampton in Queensland, in 1883 but no specimens were preserved. Then it was sighted some years ago at Caboolture in Queensland and later in the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum but again no specimens were kept. Recently I was contacted by Graham Wise from Brisbane who found it again in Brisbane in 2013. Graham was so kind to provide me with the location of his sightings and in July 2014 I finally managed to travel to Brisbane and photograph this spider. This spider seems to occur in wetlands close to the beach and may be quite widespread along the Queensland coast. It is remarkable that it has not been spotted more frequently. It is a relatively small spider, perhaps 3-4 mm in length
