Maratus clupeatus
Together with David Hill I named this species a couple of days ago. "clupeatus" means "shield bearer" and is a reference to the opisthsomal plate of this species which reminded us of a medieval shield or escutcheon. This species has so far only been found in the suburbs north of Perth. This is the holotype, the individual that will be deposited in the museum as a voucher for this new species. It was kindly donated by David Knowles from Perth who has known this spider for a very long time. You can download the original description from the Peckhamia website peckhamia.com/peckhamia_numbers.html by clicking on number 115.1 This species has been photographed a few times before by other photographers
