Shadowland - Cover May 1922
Shadowland is a very early motion picture magazine - I have about six issues, and they all feature this really gorgeous and lush illustration style.
Unfortunately, my scanner can't get the whole cover in - I lose about 1/2" all around, but luckily nothing too important.
It's an interesting magazine for many reasons - you can see some of the early conventions of movie magazines making their first appearance, like lots of pictures of celebrities, and some things that are very different, like long intellectual type essays.
I like how the title of the magazine seems to suggest that the movies were not so much moving pictures, as moving shadows - a strange, dreamlike world that was very different than what people knew before.
It's pretty fragile, so I don't wish to scan to much of the interior, but check the one other picture I scanned from the inside.
