I found this bike halfway up the John Suwan lookout point walk, it seemed to have been their for some time, I didn't pass a potencial owner and I was suprised the bike had made it here as the track was mainly very narrow and overgrown.
Motorbikes are extremely common in Thailand. The Majority of Thais cannot afford to own and run cars particularly in rural areas such as Koh Tao. Bikes provide a cheap alternative, that are easy to use, maintain and drive. Roads in Thailand are not always kept in the best condition meaning that non-4X4s struggle to drive on them however motorbikes, allow the driver to navigate their way past potholes and ruts and are easy to remove if stuck.
