I took apart an Energizer (one "assembled in Canada from US and Canadian components") it had 4 D size energizer industrial batteries and a chunk of styrofoam at the bottom to give the battery it's length.

Hear, Hear. I'm from BC and while visiting my folks in Ont my son sent me this hokes in an email and being on a vacation and having a pretty slow time I bought the 6V Energizer as well and my sister LHAO when I got it tore apart and found only 4 "D" size batteries or as she put it, "4 - Dumb size batteries" lol. Luckily I have a MAG light that uses "D" cells so I didn't waist any $$

I just now did this. I laid them aside and looked online about the hoax (which I should have done before) Picked them up about 10 minutes later and they were hot as fire. Idk what made them do that but careful not to burn my fingers, I immediately put them back in the black plastic which got hot right away. I took it outside and placed it in the bottom of an empty garbage can and hopefully it won't explode.

We are on our way to the garbage can also...if you don't hear from us again, all 11 of us blew up.. This was a stupid, but intriguing science experiment. Now our lantern will not work! Boondocks of USA
