Yesterday, I learned an old friend took his own life. He was a brilliant soul who lived intensely and gave of himself generously to our country and to his friends. He was so encouraging of my photography and grew himself a garden just to take his own photos of butterflies. I just can't get my head around the pain he must have felt.

I couldn't think of anything more expressive of my sadness than what you see written here on my face.

A Candles Light to Your Friend

A candles light to remember its flicker to remind
to wonder why fate would seem so unkind
age never those past are the visions we see
and can only wonder what their life would then be
we must try to live each day for them with that wish to have done more
we hold to such thoughts as though they will walk thought a door
a candle will always burn bright as they once lit up your heart
and forever will they walk at your side and of you always be a part
the candle is a symbol to a light that once burned
as would a remembered voice that that would have your head turned
a whisper in a breeze will be sounds touch from their dream
the candles flicker a sign that close to the light they have been
fear not then for them for their world has no pain
as they would wish to you say i am not far, and from your memory never wane
