This is a species-level food web generated stochastically from a higher-level trophic network (metanetwork). It represents a typical community from the middle Permian Eodicynodon zone of the Karoo Basin, South Africa. We are using these reconstructions to study the possible cause(s) and consequences of the end Permian mass extinction. Perturbations to these species-level webs reveals that higher level behaviours emerge, suggesting selection at the community level. (More information can be found
