Starting 'em young
In time honoured fashion, a young toddler gets to enjoy watching the trains at Gobowen this morning as light-engine Shed 66522 approaches from the north.
It turns out a steam loco had worked along the line these last couple of days around this time, and the family group were out to get a close-up view of a hoped for running this morning. It didn't go however, so they had to make do with a DMU and then this Shed - let's hope the little lad wasn't totally turned off by the traction on offer!
The Shed was returning light engine from Dee Marsh as 0V75, the 9.30am to Margam, after having worked up from Margam with the overnight steel train (6M76).
For the signalling enthusiasts there's an intriguing mix of lower and upper quadrant semaphores, together with colour lights at the south end of the station behind me. For folk more interested in food (and I have to confess to being one of them) the waiting room by the ticket office has been converted into a cafe where breakfasts and bacon baps etc can be had. I gladly participated when I found out the returning Shed was not only now running light engine but also running 50 minutes late.
