Compare to nowadays industries pasta containing dozen's of additives - from one that prevents sticking of dough to the smeary black rubber transportbands to the emulsifiers and anti molding agents - who on earth really wants have to digest questionable chemical add-ons inserted in our foodstuff for the sole reason that the machinery needs them to produce that kind of crap?
Could one be forced sip a can of grease before entering his SUV?
