Stained glass window detail: Abundance

Stained glass window adorning the Finger Lakes Wine Center at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park, Canandaigua, NY. I was told this was a Tiffany window, but actually, it was done by Pike. Many people call this style Tiffany, but the window may not actually have been made by that company, though it's in the same style. Tiffany's trademark, though not exclusive to that studio, was opalescent glass, a single sheet of glass with varied colors or shades in it, which you can see here. The volunteers behind the wine tasting counter told me this window was originally in a local bank building. When they decided to update and redesign the bank, they gave the window to Sonnenburg. This and another window at the Seneca Falls Historical Society Museum (see www.flickr.com/photos/57137167@N00/4670646900/) both came from banks when they redecorated. It makes me wonder how many more interesting Victorian windows from banks are out there and how many were dumped in the local landfill. I'm glad this one was preserved and displayed. Here's a full view of the window: www.flickr.com/photos/visitfingerlakes/3118468973/
