Rachel / Extraterrestrial Highway
NV-375 is designated "Extraterrestrial Highway," because it passes quite close to Groom Lake and Area 51, an ultra-secret base where it is alleged that technology from the Roswell, New Mexico UFO crash of 1947 is being reverse-engineered. Many weird prototype aircraft do take to the skies from Groom Lake and can be spotted here.
The very existence of Area 51 was denied until 1995. Even today it is a top secret area with purposes unknown.
Here at the town of Rachel, a few conspiracy theorists and UFO enthusiasts run a research center that details experimental Area 51 aircraft as seen in the skies here. Its only other business is Little A'Le'Inn, a restaurant/bar/hotel, whose owner's far-right politics is notable.
It took me over two hours to drive here from Las Vegas. Totally not worth it. Except for the town name sign with my name on it. :)
My 1999 Ford Contour SE Sport (which I retired in 2006) is making my own political statements. The "No on 38" bumper sticker is in response to Proposition 38, the California voter initiative for tax-funded vouchers to private and religious schools, which I strongly opposed in the wake of another theocratic voter initiative, Proposition 22, which had passed earlier in the year; Proposition 38 was defeated the next month. The other bumper sticker was in support of the Al Gore presidential campaign, putting me at odds with Little A'Le'Inn.
