Russell to Beddgelert June 2019
Russell shines as the star of 'WHR Past Present & Future' gala.

The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog are pleased to report the 'WHR Past, Present & Future' event was a resounding success and we are proud we were able to play our part.

Star of the show was undoubtedly the original Welsh Highland Railway steam locomotive, Hunslet-built 2-6-2T 'Russell' built in 1906.

Normally resident on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog, Russell hauled passenger trains on the route of the original Welsh Highland Railway to Beddgelert for the first time in 80 years.

The locomotive performed fabulously and produced the show that everyone was waiting for.

Speaking after the event, Mark Seale, the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway event organiser, said; "We must thank Paul Lewin and his team at the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways for their help and support and for allowing us to work together to enhance the experience of so many who enjoy the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, and our own Welsh Highland Heritage Railway.

Going forward we are committed to helping add value to our fantastic railways and are confident that we can continue to work together for the benefit of everyone who enjoys the narrow gauge railways around Porthmadog.

The Welsh Highland Railway Ltd operates services on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway between Porthmadog and Pen-y-Mount and runs an award-winning hands-on interactive museum at Gelert's Farm. More details can be found here. www.whr.co.uk
