Dinner with Sugimoto

Early this year I uploaded a photo called “next 2nothing“ and I was asked by Aurelio (Ionushi) whether I knew the Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto – I didn’t by then. A few days ago I got an invitation for a guided tour to the exposition of this artist including a Japanese dinner in the museum K20 in my hometown Duesseldorf. What a treat for a photo-addict who loves Asian food…

I was lucky to have a guide who was obviously in love with Sugimoto’s work and knew him well. She was bubbling with enthusiasm and it was wonderful to hear about his life and his work from her. We saw the pictures in a different way after all the information we got. (The food served after the tour was excellent, too, by the way…)

The negative side of the evening was that you weren’t supposed to take photos - a photographer’s nightmare. Well, my camera is so small that I can hide it in one hand… I took this photo in a hurry when the others had passed the room… and the guard looked away – with a wink in her eyes. Thank you for that, dear lady…
