If I had to choose for my wall I would prefer this one over the defender. Having said that I see to many of these long exposure water pictures in here. They are great looking but we get it now, the technique is old news.

Thinking about andrew's comment above, I kind of have to agree with it. This is obviously a well done shot, and very appealing to my eyes, although the defender's capture of a precise moment does appeal to me more in this case. But it's true, at what point would the pool start to become a Flickr's 100 best long-exposure water shot pool, rather than a 100 best B/W? I think with each one that enters the pool it may become exponentially harder to get an additional one in.

Still, great composition and mastery of the technique.

Another good shot Adam, I don't feel that it has the dynamics to challenge the defenders for me. Also it feels as if it's slightly at an angle, a difficult one i know because the horizon seems to be straight.

well, I was never a big fan of the defender's shot. And the subtlty and smoothness of this are wonderful.

Long exposure water or not.. I LOVE this exposure. And to me the mood of the shot is magnificent. The clouds are so great.

At first glance, I'd go with this shot over the defenders. After several minutes viewing time however, I've concluded the defender has the edge. The foreground in this photograph is very dramatic but it is mostly the effect. The defenders shot has an intricacy that starts with the timing of the shot and extends though the lighting and into the repeating pattern of the archways that recede into the background. A wonderful shot though.

I feel the defender's image is a better example of its type than this one. I also have to agree with the comment regarding the number of similar shots in the pool, it might be better to challenge one of the existing images in this genre.
