fields and traffic along Interstate 5, between Westley and Tracy, September 4, 2006

This was Labor Day a year ago, as I was stopped at the rest area near I-5 and 580's meeting point.

Geotagged approximately.

I have always liked the I-5 route down the west side of the Central Valley. Yes, I know many Sacramento, Bay area, or LA folks look at it as a boring lull between destinations, but I disagree. It is scenic in it's own way.

    Nice shot.

Yeap, it gets you from point A to point B fast and I do agree with you, it is scenic in it's own peculiar way. One thing I don't like much about it is the smell of cow and chicken manure. Seen the California Aqueduct when the sun is setting is something nice.

Are you an urban planner or work in a similar area? Thanks for your comment. When I see this scene, I think, "The best job would be to drive around all day long taking photos of landscapes in the American West, Africa, Southern Brazil, or thousands of other places in the world.."

I am and I work for a local government in California. I definitely do enjoy the landscape and helping affect how it does or does not change. My images are from personal time, though.

Most of my work time is spent inside an office, at a counter with members of the public, or in meetings, but from time to time I do get out to sites where buildings or new land uses are proposed, and I do bring a camera so that my memos and such have illustrations. I might have a few orphan pictures that have no use in my office that I could throw into this stream. (Thanks for the question.)
