  • It's a float; most wharves have them so you don't have to jump from way up high to get down to a boat with the tide.

  • Actually, I consider the float over here clutter

Roanoke Marshes Replica Lighthouse in Manteo, North Carolina

Newer Older

Built in 2004 near the replica of the ship Elizabeth, one of Walter Raleigh's seven ships that brought colonists to what would become the "Lost Colony" of Roanoke. The original screwpile lighthouse was lost in 1955 while being transported by barge from its original location in the middle of the bay.

I'm actually curious as to why this has more views than my other pictures. It's all right, but I was never crazy about it; I really had doubts about posting it at all.

On a technical level it looks good to me, but I just don't find it interesting

I swear without whatever it is this would be the serene and uncluttered shot everyone wants it to be from the thumbnail.

If you were a few feet lower, the grass would have hidden it. Crop might work, I'm not sure.

pretty, and a nice moment to document.

The dock, the boats, and the house all seem to have the same value--I wish you had chosen one to highlight, so I would have a place to start as I travel through the scene.

The colors seem kind of flat to me...or maybe it's just late...it looks like a lovely place. But I have to say uncool

U showing that North Carolina has some kind of sail training for young sailors also? which is sweet, and I love the color of your red roof in the blue sky. But I don't think this is the pic for the brochure. uncool.
*mostly for the clutter on the bottom

You lost me also because of the bottom 3rd, more so the grass than the pier which doesnt seem to fit the nautical nature of the image.

A recurring theme I find funny is that what somebody who's always around the water considers a natural part of the scenery others would clone out. I would've removed the 3 nasty things I pointed out. Somebody knocked the lightning rod as unnecessary on a picture once.
Mind you, I'm not complaining, I do find it very interesting.
