Catalyst: aka Mod Mosaic 15 blocks on design wall

my scraps are so happy they found a purpose in life :)

These are 12 1/2 squares of Mod Mosaic Scrap blocks, three rows by five columns -

*edit May 2012* Renamed with a Story: Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry #447

Catalyst because it sparked a chain of events that has changed my quilting world and has resulted in many more firsts. Blogged capitolaquilter.blogspot.com/2012/05/bloggers-quilt-festi...

This is a fantastic quilt. I am full of questions. Do you save ALL your cutting scraps? I would love to know HOW you pieced this quilt.
  • Karen 4y

Realisa: Thanks! I save almost all of my scraps and tend to guestimate while I am cutting so I end up with extra "parts" when I am done with a project. I toss them in a designated storage bucket and occasionally I sort them into gallon baggies by color when I'm in the mood.

The picture I posted is of 15 blocks (each 12 1/2 inches square) clinging to a piece of batting so it's the makings of a quilt but not an actual top yet. I joined my very first Scrap Bee (so much fun) and the construction is based on Elizabeth Hartman's post:

Hope you give it a try, it is so addicting. The improvisational aspect is quite rewarding - makes a big mess though!
  • Sarah 4y

This is so great! Must try this.
  • Ash 4y

    This. Is. AMAZING.

I've been looking at Elizabeth's post for this technique for awhile and I've been too scared to try it. This has given me confidence that it will turn out in the end. Thanks for your inspiration!

Thanks for all of the really nice comments everyone. I have 5 more blocks done so I should try and post another picture with them all soon. Since it has barely made a dent in my scrap bucket, there's no reason to stop now!

This is fantastic. I have so many small scraps that I could use to do this. I'm lucky.. my 4 yr old GD sorts the colours for me when she comes round to visit. Keeps her happy for hours.
  • Karen 4y

JanBran Lucky little GD - I feel like a kid again when I sort :)
